Government in the Bible
Download
What does the Bible have to say about the role of Government? Julian Rivers believes that the Biblical view of Government is that it is 'legitimate but limited'. Starting from the ambivalent view of worldly authority that runs right through the scriptures, Rivers shows that the Bible:
- demands that Government is committed to equal citizenship;
- requires that Governments are subject to the law;
- expects that Government should be held to account;
- does not tell Christians how to vote, but does inform how they should decide how to vote!
This essay is an edited version of Julian's chapter in God and Government, published by SPCK.
